#224 P2 – The Rebirth Of Moon Knight: From 2010 To 2024; Resurrection, Disney+ Series And More Essays With Scott Weatherly

The 20th Century Geek’s deep dive into Moon Knight’s entire history (as of early 2024) continues, including numerous comic runs, the Disney+ series and the Moon Knight essay book; Waxing And Waning: Essays On Moon Knight, which Scott edited & contributed to!

This release is part 2, where the duo’s conversation continues with Warren Ellis’ 6 issues of Moon Knight from 2014 and Lemire’s 2016 run. Mike & Scott then talk about the “phases” of Moon Knight and how the Disney+ show takes elements from this era. Scott then provides his theory on why (in-universe) Moon Knight/Marc Spector changes so much, before delving into MK’s latest run by Jed Mackay and Scott’s thoughts on the future of Moon Knight!

In case you missed last week, part 1 of their conversation started with Scott confirming when he first experienced Moon Knight and why he is so interested by the character, as well as why he wanted to release an essay book on the character. The duo then delve into Moon Knight’s full history, while referencing several essays within Waxing And Waning, starting with his 1975 debut and 1980 solo comic run, before delving into the “edgy” 2006 Huston/Benson run and some of the runs along the way, before speaking about the Brian Michael Bendis run.

THE VOTES ARE IN! We received many submissions for DD10, each chose a movie, put it out to you lovely listeners and the two top movies were John Carter and Zootopia/Zootropolis!

In this special episode, the discussion begins the other films that were submitted and plans for the future of Disney Discussions. They then talk about the first movie; Zootropolis (also known as Zootopia & Zoomania) including the animation, characters, social commentary and the group’s enjoyment of the film itself. After about an hour, they then turn to John Carter to discuss a wide variety of matters, including why they believe the film flopped at the box office, what it was trying to achieve, what it failed & succeeded at and so much more!

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Ep 22: Chewbacca’s Family, Medal Of Bravery & Secret Mission

This week Mike talks about the 5-issue mini-series starring everyone’s favourite wookiee; Chewbacca! This episode covers Chewie’s time on Andelm 4 (just after A New Hope), details about his family, his “missing” medal from the end of A New Hope & sequel trilogy and more!

All 5 issues of Chewbacca were written by Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto did the art, colouring and covers. Issue 1 was released October 2015, Issue 5 was released December 2015, the trade paperback was released March 2016 and the 3-series collection “Heroes For A New Hope” featuring the Princess Leia, Lando & Chewbacca comics was released in November 2016. In this chat Mike & Gough discuss Gough potentially making a sequel to his documentary “I Will Not Go Quietly”, some of Gough’s favourite music, TV shows & podcasts, how Gough met his friend Simon who has helped with all of the recent Beernuts releases, some of the social issues Gough likes to explore in his comedy, how Gough dislikes people telling him and anyone else how to live their life, some of the ways Gough has been discriminated against, the importance of humour in all walks of life, how people should follow their dreams, Gough’s view on the existence of aliens and much more!

This week Mike is joined by the amazing Beth Crane; writer, co-creator and voice of Kilner of the incredible sci-fi audio drama We Fix Space Junk (Hedley Knights, the other co-creator & sound engineer is also present but this chat primarily focuses on Beth).

This week, Mike talks to Ryan Payne, a musician who has been in numerous alternative bands as a guitarist and a vocalist, who Mike has known since school!
