Alex Hart returns to the podcast after many months of travelling to talk about movies with Mike!

In a bit more detail, the duo discuss their favourite movies since the start of 2023, including Barbenheimer, Poor Things & Dune – they also talk about the lack of recent comedy films and how modern comedy has changed, the joys of cinema and several of Alex & Mike’s cinema experiences, including a recent embarrassing one, purely due to Mike, and they wrap up with their brief thoughts of Dune Part 2 (no spoilers) with a few film recommendations – this is one for the movie lovers!

#218 – Disney Discussions 10; The Listeners Have Chosen The Movies! Zootopia/Zootropolis & John Carter

THE VOTES ARE IN! We received many submissions for DD10, each chose a movie, put it out to you lovely listeners and the two top movies were John Carter and Zootopia/Zootropolis!

In this special episode, the discussion begins the other films that were submitted and plans for the future of Disney Discussions. They then talk about the first movie; Zootropolis (also known as Zootopia & Zoomania) including the animation, characters, social commentary and the group’s enjoyment of the film itself. After about an hour, they then turn to John Carter to discuss a wide variety of matters, including why they believe the film flopped at the box office, what it was trying to achieve, what it failed & succeeded at and so much more!

#212 – Is Phantom Menace That Bad? Fixing The Star Wars Prequels & Leading To Clone Wars Conversations With Dave, Maff & Megan

This week brings another Star Wars conversation, where Dave, Maff, Megan & Mike go back to 1999 with the first of the controversial Prequel Trilogy; The Phantom Menace! The episode serves as a soft lead into the Clone Wars animated series, which Dave, Maff & Mike will be delving into in 2024 – Maff hasn’t watched the prequel trilogy in many years, while Mike is a staunch defender, so tune in to hear; is Phantom Menace actually any good?

In more detail, the gang discuss their impressions of Phantom Menace from when they first watched them and how they felt about it after the recently rewatch. They highlight certain characters, namely Jar Jar Binks, Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn, the political dialogue, how the movie was different from the original trilogy, things they believe could’ve been improved, elements that they enjoy and whether or not this film still deserves to be maligned even 24 years after release!

This week, in the first GCC Christmas special, Mike talks to two of his favourite people (and past guests) TJ Cummings & Bradley Hobby! Their chat delves into a variety of subjects as they pop-up and disappear into the distance; these 3 talk about their loves & hates of the holiday season as well as a whole mess of other things – the short film Dark Dungeons, Mike’s different facial hair colours, their love of the Legend of Zelda franchise and more are all intertwined with Christmas movies, music, food, decorations & presents!

This week, Mike sits down with Tom (from ep 5) to talk about the cult movie “The Room”, the strange unintentional entertainment it brings and it’s biopic starring James & Dave Franco: “The Disaster Artist” where it shows Greg Sustero (Tommy’s friend & author of The Disaster Artist book) & Tommy Wiseau (the strange man who started it all), their friendship and how the movie was conceived & created.
