#67 – Taking A Short Break To Mexico: A Solo Pod About What’s To Come & Why The Two Week Gap

This week is something a little bit different – as I (Mike) am going to Mexico for 10 days, I wanted to take a break from podcasting so I wouldn’t have to work while away and to ensure I don’t rush any upcoming episodes.

In this solo ramble I mentioned a few podcasts to check out including #52 with Bill M of The Church Of Satan, episodes #48 & #65 with Gough, the blind filmmaker from Australia, #54 with Heather of The Brave Files, #63 with Comics In Motion and #24 with my brother Rob, Remembering Our Late Father – all of these can be found in the usual places and while I’m on the break, it’s worth checking out the rest of the back catalogue too!

Last week I spoke with Amanda Steel – an author of novels, poems & short stories, as well as creating a quarterly written media publication called Printed Words and being one half of the Reading In Bed Podcast! In our chat we discussed Amanda’s newest book, First Charge as well as Amanda’s other works, when & why she started writing, why she used the pseudonym “Aleesha Black” for her Lost & Found books, one of the worst dates Amanda has been on and using it as inspiration for “Love, Dates & Other Nightmares”, before talking about what Amanda’s publication “Printed Words” entails, how she gets her writing done. The conversation then moves onto Amanda’s podcast and podcasting in general, before a brief discussion on Amanda’s religious/spiritual views, then talking about different languages, learning to become a better writer and much more!

#40 Part 1 – Producing “We Fix Space Junk”: Sound Engineering, Automnicon & “The Rock” Musical With Hedley Knights

This week, Mike is joined by the powerful Hedley Knights, who as well as being the producer/sound engineer, he voices Jault for the podcast audio drama We Fix Space Junk and is a co-founder of Battlebird Productions!

In addition to discussing how WFSJ all began, the inspirations for it, bonus content and who the “Automnivoice” is, they discuss a whole mess of other things, so even if you’re not a fan of We Fix Space Junk, this is still an incredible listen!

Hedley’s journey to becoming a sound engineer, some previous musical ventures (including a musical about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and the music he generally listens to are discussed, as well as the uncanny valley in movies, Harry Potter, The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, Dungeons & Dragons, old-school internet, Nikola Tesla, Elon Musk and much more in part 1 of this chat!

Part 2 will be released next week, where their conversation continues, discussing some more details of WFSJ, some more political matters and several other topics, so be sure to tune in next week for that!
