Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Han Solo & Chewbacca Vol 1: Han Solo Meets His Dad? The Job That Went Wrong Before A New Hope, Plus Greedo, Krrsantan, Jabba The Hutt & More (Han & Chewie #1-5) – Ep 107

ON A JOB THAT GOES SOUTH, DOES HAN SOLO MEET HIS ESTRANGED FATHER? Ep 107 is set in the years between Solo and A New Hope, where Han & Chewie are up to no good again! Join us on the first 5 issues (of 10) of their time doing a job for Jabba The Hutt where nothing seems to go right for the duo; they meet a man claiming to be Han’s father, have to work with the nefarious Greedo, Chewie gets in (another) violent confrontation with the Wookiee bounty hunter Krrsantan plus so much more! Some unexpected familiar faces also appear…

This episode was first released on the feed of Comics In Motion, in September 2022.

This story is set after the movie Solo but before A New Hope, approximately 2-8 years before the Battle of Yavin (8-2BBY).

Han Solo & Chewbacca’s first arc; The Crystal Run, was written by Marc Guggenheim, the artist was David Messina and the colour artist was Alex Sinclair. Issue 1 was released March 9th 2022, issue 5 was released August 10th 2022 and the trade paperback collection is due for release November 8th 2022.

For other Han Solo content, Mike tackled his time in the Imperial army in ep 10 of SWCIC, Han is in the majority of 2015 Star Wars comics, which starts in ep 9 and Han’s Age Of Rebellion comic is tackled in episode 47. Previously, in ep 106, Mike delved into the third batch of Crimson Reign comics, where the Crimson Dawn conspiracy continues to unravel in a galaxy of chaos. The Archivist searches the galaxy for the green Jedi Master while the bounty hunter crew plan to capture Vukorah, Aphra & Sana’s search for the Spark Eternal nears its end, Sabé works to manipulate Vader and Qi’ra bargains with Leia while Zahra tortures Shara Bay – all of this is tackled this week, plus Mike provides information on Jeremy Bulloch’s non-Boba-Fett character and more.

Jamie of the Talking Dad UK podcast is this week’s guest; he talks with Mike about starting his podcast, men’s feelings, cemeteries, music and more!

In more detail, Mike & Jamie start by explaining the premise of his podcast as well as why he started it, they then talk about recording spaces, their mutual love of religious architecture and cemeteries before discussing how many men aren’t comfortable discussing emotions, having long-form conversations and getting guests for the show. Towards the end they talk about music (listening & playing), how Jamie’s son responds to it and their mutual love of live shows, so this is an episode that covers a lot of ground!

In the last episode of GCC, number 146, Mike spoke with Richard Lettieri Ph.D; forensic neuropsychologist, psychoanalyst and author for an in-depth discussion of his field of work, the human condition and his new book; Decoding Madness! In more detail, Richard explains why & how he wrote his book, his experience over the last few decades working in the fields of neuropsychology and psychiatry, as well as being an expert witness for countless court cases, before he talks about the term “daimonic” and how it is a reflection of many aspects of human nature. Richard also talks about much more and be warned, there are some fairly graphic examples in this conversation!

#85 – 10 Years After The Docco: I Will Not Go Quietly, Mental Health, Worldwide Travel & A Famous Dad With Gough

This week Mike is once again joined by Gough, creator of the documentary “I Will Not Go Quietly” and the production company Beernuts Productions – Gough is a legally blind filmmaker, comedian, author, friend of the show and an all-round fun guy to speak with!

Gough discusses the 10-year anniversary of his documentary “I Will Not Go Quietly” which is about Gough’s blindness, the multitude of issues he experienced after school, his own and other’s mental health & more.
As well as the documentary itself, Gough talks about how & why he made a documentary (or “docco” as the Auzzies call it), what happened after releasing the docco, what’s changed over the last 10 years, what it was like growing up with a famous dad, the importance of travelling and more!

Last week Gough & Mike focused on Gough’s new comedy mockumentary called “How To Treat Women” by discussing satire in comedy and the challenges of making a mockumentary, especially for a blind man! They also discuss comedic timings, actor chemistry, backlash Gough has received from his comedy works (& how he’s a “smut-peddler”), the Australian bushfires of late 2019/early 2020 & more!

This week, in the first GCC Christmas special, Mike talks to two of his favourite people (and past guests) TJ Cummings & Bradley Hobby! Their chat delves into a variety of subjects as they pop-up and disappear into the distance; these 3 talk about their loves & hates of the holiday season as well as a whole mess of other things – the short film Dark Dungeons, Mike’s different facial hair colours, their love of the Legend of Zelda franchise and more are all intertwined with Christmas movies, music, food, decorations & presents!

Remembering Dad – GCC #24: Father’s Day Special: Our Journey Through The Passing Of Our Father, Stephen Burton w/ Rob Burton

This week’s release is an especially emotional & important release for me (Mike). Today marks Father’s Day in the UK, so I wanted to release something about my father, Stephen Burton, who passed away in May of 2013 of oesophageal cancer.

This episode includes discussions of death of a family member and some details about their death, so please be warned of this sensitive content.

I am joined by my brother Rob (who is 17 years older than me) and we discuss how Dad raised each of us and how he was when he became older, followed by how we both found out about his cancer and how it affected him before his death. We then discuss his death itself and how it affected us and what to do moving forward.

As I state in the intro, this is a very meaningful & quite emotional episode for both myself & Rob but we wanted to show that it’s healthy to speak about these matters and if anyone is going through something similar and wishes to chat, I am more than happy to discuss any of these things in a completely confidential way.
