Star Wars: Comics In Canon – SW 2020: Stuck In No Space, Searching For The Kezarat Convoy, Plus Amilyn Holdo, The Nihil, Abyssians & More (Star Wars [2020] Vol 6: 30-33) – Ep 138

THE REBELS ARE TRAPPED IN NO SPACE, HOW WILL THEY ESCAPE? For ep 138, Mike delves back into the main run of Star Wars comics from 2020, where Chewie, Holdo, Lando, Leia, Lobot & Luke search for the Kezarat Convoy by using a High-Republic-era Nihil path engine and find themselves in trouble! In addition to the comic’s plot, Mike delves into a bit of information regarding the High Republic, Amilyn Holdo, Abyssians and more!

Star Wars 30-33 were all written by Charles Soule with Rachelle Rosenberg as colour artist and for issues 30 & 31, Andrés Genolet was artist while Madibek Musabekov was artist for issues 32 & 33. Issue 30 was released January 4th 2023, issue 33 was released April 5th 2023 and the trade paperback collection was released 26th September 2023.

The ep is another canon book review, but this one takes place from Attack Of The Clones through The Clone Wars and into years after Order 66, following Iskat Akaris’ journey from Jedi Padawan to The Thirteenth Sister (an inquisitor) and the many situations she finds herself in along the way, including searching for other members of her mysterious species!

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Crimson Reign 3: The Archivist Finds Yoda, Qi’ra Helps Leia And Vader Pursues Sabé – (CR3, DV21, Bounty Hunters 21, Doctor Aphra 19 & Star Wars 22) – Ep 106

CRIMSON DAWN’S ARCHIVIST FINDS YODA ON DAGOBAH! In ep 106, Mike delves into the third batch of Crimson Reign comics, where the Crimson Dawn conspiracy continues to unravel in a galaxy of chaos. The Archivist searches the galaxy for the green Jedi Master while the bounty hunter crew plan to capture Vukorah, Aphra & Sana’s search for the Spark Eternal nears its end, Sabé works to manipulate Vader and Qi’ra bargains with Leia while Zahra tortures Shara Bay – all of this is tackled this week, plus Mike provides information on Jeremy Bulloch’s non-Boba-Fett character and more.

This episode was first released on the feed of Comics In Motion, in September 2022.

This story is set after Empire Strikes Back & after the War Of The Bounty Hunters event, but before Return Of The Jedi and the reading order is CR3>BH21>DA19>DV21>SW22.

Crimson Reign 3 was released 9th March 2022 and was written by Charles Soule, with Steven Cummings as penciller, Victor Olazaba as inker and Guru eFX as colour artist. BH21 was released 30th March 2022 and was written by Ethan Sacks with Paolo Villanelli as artist and Bryan Valenza as colour artist. DA19 was released 23rd March 2022, was written by Alyssa Wong with Minkyu Jung as artist Rachelle Rosenberg as colour artist. DV21 was released 23rd March 2022, was written by Greg Pak with Raffaele Ienco as artist and Alex Sinclair as colour artist. SW22 was released 13th April 2022 and was written by Charles Soule, with Ramon Rosanas as artists and Rachelle Rosenberg as colour artist.

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Rebels & Rogues: C-3PO Meets Vader, Luke Meets A Force User And Han & Leia Dance (Star Wars [2015] Vol 10: #68-72) – Ep 65

In ep 65, Mike embarks on the penultimate issues of the 2015 main Star Wars run of comics; Rebels & Rogues! In this story Luke wants to distract some imperials, but gets entangled with another force sensitive person, Han & Leia head to Lanz Carpo; a planet near Coruscant to try and frame it’s leader and Chewbacca & C-3PO venture to a planet of “rock people” and Darth Vader is right around the corner…

Also in Mike’s outro, he does a Palpatine impression, so be warned about that!

This story is set before Empire Strikes Back, around 1-3 ABY.

All issues were written by Greg Pak, with Phil Noto as the artist and colour artist. Issue 68 was released July 2019, issue 72 was released October 2019 and the trade paperback collection was released November 2019.

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Ep 53: Hope Dies; Space Battles, Betrayal & No Escape (Star Wars #50-55)

This week, Mike tackles the ominous arc Hope Dies, starting in the 50th issue of the main Star Wars run! As well as tackling this dark story-arc with the usual gang of the original trilogy, this episode features a lot of space battles, numerous recognisable characters from A New Hope getting killed, details of Vader’s Star Destroyer; The Executor, and so much more!

Please note this episode was originally released in May of 2021 on the feed of Comics In Motion.

This arc is set at 1 ABY (1 year after A New Hope, 2 years before Empire Strikes Back).

All issues were written by Kieron Gillen, with Salvador Larroca as the artist, and Guru eFX as colour artist.

Issue 50 was released July 2018, issue 55 was released October 2018 and the trade paperback collection was released December 2018.

Phasma leads an army in “Fallen Guns”, General Hux & Kylo Ren are stranded together in “Marooned”, Snoke takes Ren to the Dagobah cave in “Fail. Or Kill It” and in “Out Of The Shadow” Kylo Ren faces against a Zillo beast which Vader couldn’t defeat. Plus Mike gives additional information about each of the four villains!

In this episode of Star Wars: Comics In Canon, Mike tackles the 6-part arc in the main run of Star Wars comics; Mutiny At Mon Cala, which includes the rebels trying to break the Empire’s stronghold on the Mon Calamari’s fleet and their people, a rescue mission, a space battle, a shapeshifter in a 5-hour long opera and more!

Please note this episode was originally released in March of 2021 on the feed of Comics In Motion.

These stories were written by Kieron Gillen with Salvador Larroca as the artist and Guru eFX as the colour artist. Issue 44 was released March 2018, 49 was released June 2018 and the trade paperback collection was released August 2018.

Be sure to check out episode 7 of SWCIC for the Allegiance mini-series (a Mon Cala story set in the sequel era), plus check out the first 3 episodes of season 4 of the Clone Wars for the Mon Cala civil war arc – also keep an eye out for future episodes of SWCIC where Mike will tackle the 2017 run of Vader comics, issues 13-18 serve as a prequel story to this one!

The last episode of SWCIC was a book review, where Mike gives some information on The High Republic era before delving into the 3-part review – the first is completely spoiler free, with some vague information on the book’s themes, vehicles & etc while the second will have some very light spoilers, plot details and character information with the last part giving more information about certain aspects and Mike does not spoil the story or what happens to any characters in this recording!

Rogue One Sequel: The Ashes Of Jedha (Star Wars #38-43) – Star Wars: Comics In Canon Ep 44

This episode of Star Wars: Comics In Canon features the Rogue One “sequel” arc from the main run of Star Wars comics called The Ashes Of Jedha, which features Luke searching for further lessons from the Force, Leia & Han travelling to (what’s left of) Jedha to meet with the remaining of Saw Gerrera’s Partisans, including “Two-Tubes” (Benthic), while Queen Trios & Commander Kamchar continue to decimate the Jedha for its resources!

Please note this episode was originally released in February of 2021 on the feed of Comics In Motion.

All 6 comics were written by Kieron Gillen, with Salvador Larroca as the artist and Guru-eFX as the colourist. The first of the arc, issue 38 was released November 2017, issue 43 was out February 2018 and the trade paperback collection was out April 2018.

Check out episode 40 of SWCIC for the previous arc in the main run of Star Wars comics and episode 23 for the Darth Vader comic arc that introduces Queen Trios (although neither of these are necessary to understand/enjoy this episode)!

In the last episode of SWCIC (episode 43), Mike tackled the 5 villains stories in the Age Of Rebellion one-shot comic series (from original trilogy); Grand Moff Tarkin in “Tooth & Claw”, Boba Fett in “Hunter’s Heart”, Jabba The Hutt in “Great To Be Jabba”, Darth Vader in “To The Letter” and IG-88 in “The Long Game”, Mike also gives additional information about each of the characters, connections, bounty hunters, species and more!

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Ep 21: The Secret Rebel Jail & Nerf-Herding (Star Wars #16-19)

In this episode of Star Wars: Comics In Canon, Mike talks about the third volume of Star Wars comics; Rebel Jail, featuring Princess Leia & Sana Starros taking Doctor Aphra to a secret rebel prison closely orbiting a star, Luke & Han’s nerf-herding mission, a crazed rebel spy, the first Star Wars annual and more!

The 4 issues of vol 3 of Star Wars were written by Jason Aaron with the penciller Leinil Yu, inker Gerry Alaguilan and colourist Sunny Gho (& Java Tartaglia on #19). Issue #16 was released February 2016, issue #19 was released May 2016 and the trade paperback collection was released August 2016 (which includes Star Wars Annual #1).

Star Wars Annual #1 was written by Kieron Gillen, Angel Unzueta was the artist and Paul Mounts was the colourist and was released December 2015.

Last episode Mike spoke about the Galaxy’s Edge Comic, before that was the Vader Down crossover event and the week before was the Lando comic mini-series. Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Ep 14: Princess Leia Straight After A New Hope, Alderaan’s Legacy & Nien Nunb (Princess Leia #1-5)

In this episode of Star Wars: Comics In Canon, Mike talks about the 5-comic mini-series “Princess Leia” set seconds after the medal ceremony shown in A New Hope which follows Leia trying to find Alderaanian refugees after Alderaan was destroyed by the Death Star and it also shows how Nien Nunb entered the rebellion!

The Princess Leia comics were written by Mark Waid, pencilled by Terry Dodson, inked by Rachel Dodson and is the colourist is Jordie Bellaire. Issue #1 was released in March 2015, issue #5 was released July 2015 and the paperback collection was out November 2015 while the 3-series collection “Heroes For A New Hope” featuring the Princess Leia, Lando & Chewbacca comics was released in November 2016.

For Genuine Chit-Chat’s 2-parter 75th episode, Mike is joined by Scott of the 20th Century Geek podcast and Chris & Dave from the Comics In Motion & VHS Strikes Back podcasts for a collaborative special for the build up to The Rise Of Skywalker.
