Star Wars: Comics In Canon – The Rise Of Kylo Ren (Redux): How Ben Solo Destroyed Luke’s Jedi Temple & Bled His Lightsaber Crystal, Plus The Knights Of Ren, Snoke & More – Ep 109

HOW DID KYLO REN GET HIS RED LIGHTSABER AND WHAT HAPPENED TO LUKE’S JEDI TEMPLE? In ep 109, Mike delves into the archives to redo the four Rise Of Kylo Ren comics, giving much more information than when he tackled it previously (in episode 1, over 2.5 years ago), including connections to The High Republic, the 2020 Star Wars comics, the 2017 Darth Vader comics, Crimson Reign and gives much more information on the Knights Of Ren! He also delves into the process of bleeding a lightsaber crystal and explains how Kylo got his iconic lightsaber from the sequel trilogy!

This episode was first released on the feed of Comics In Motion, in October 2022.

This comic mini-series is around 28 ABY (flashbacks between 18-25 ABY), approximately 6 years before the events of The Force Awakens.

The Rise Of Kylo Ren is written by Charles Soule, with Will Sliney as the artist and Guru eFX as the colourist, issue 1 was released December 2019, issue 4 released March 2020 and the trade paperback collection was released August 2020.

In ep 108, Mike delved into the fourth batch of Crimson Reign comics, where the infamous Knights Of Ren (& their leader before Kylo) attempt to steal a key from Darth Vader while the Crimson Dawn conspiracy continues to plunge the galaxy into chaos. Plus, the Bounty Hunters crew try to escape a horde of Unbroken Clan loyalists, Vader probes Sabé & Ochi about Crimson Dawn, Commander Zahra makes a daring gambit against the entire Rebellion fleet and Aphra finally gets her hands on the Spark Eternal…

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Poe Dameron: C-3PO Searches For Snoke & A Resistance Spy, While Terex’ Gang Attacks. Plus Mister Bones & The Battle Of Jakku (Poe Dameron Vol 2: The Gathering Storm #8-13) – Ep 89

POE SEARCHES FOR A SPY IN THE RESISTANCE! In ep 89, Poe’s story continues with volume 2 of his own comics where he & C-3PO search for a droid operative with the location of Supreme Leader Snoke, all while trying to work out who’s feeding information to the First Order. This story also includes Terex’ flashbacks to the Battle Of Jakku and a familiar droid for any readers of the Aftermath trilogy returns! Mike also gives information on Rothana, BX-series battle droids, the Battle of Jakku and more!

Volume 2 of Poe Dameron is set around 32ABY (2 years before The Force Awakens, 28 years after Return Of The Jedi).

Poe Dameron 8 was released November 2016, issue 13 was released April 2017 and the trade paperback collection was released June 2017. Charles Soule is the writer of these comics, with Phil Noto being the artist, colour artist and cover artist!

Make sure you listen to episode 85 of SWCIC for volume 1 of Poe’s comics, also check out ep 4 for an introduction to Poe’s parents, ep 7 for the Allegiance mini-series (set between The Last Jedi & The Rise Of Skywalker) and ep 56 for the Age Of Resistance Poe comic!

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Ep 52: Kylo Ren Goes To Dagobah, Fights A Zillo Beast & Gets Marooned With Hux (Age Of Resistance Villains)

In this episode, Mike tackles the four one-shot Age Of Resistance Villain comics, all set before The Force Awakens, 3 of which feature Kylo Ren! Phasma leads an army in “Fallen Guns”, General Hux & Kylo Ren are stranded together in “Marooned”, Snoke takes Ren to the Dagobah cave in “Fail. Or Kill It” and in “Out Of The Shadow” Kylo Ren faces against a Zillo beast which Vader couldn’t defeat. Plus Mike gives additional information about each of the four villains!

These stories are all set between 28-34 ABY (before the sequel trilogy).

Please note this episode was originally released in April of 2021 on the feed of Comics In Motion.

All issues were written by Tom Taylor, with Leonard Kirk as penciller, Cory Hamscher as inker and Guru eFX as colour artist.

Phasma was the first villains comic released, in July 2019, with Kylo Ren’s being released September 2019, the trade paperback was released December 2019 and the hardcover featuring both heroes & villains was released September 2020.
