Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Ep 33: Yoda’s Stonepower Master & Secret War Before TPM (Star Wars #26-30)

In this episode of Star Wars: Comics In Canon, Mike delves into the arc of the main Star Wars comics featuring the near-900 year old jedi master Yoda, set before The Phantom Menace! This arc includes Yoda saving a force sensitive child from pirates, learning a “new force power” from an unexpected master, living rock and how Yoda’s involvement in a secret war catches up to Luke nearly 35 years later!

Please note this episode was originally released on the feed of Comics In Motion in November 2020.

For the first two & a half minutes of this pod, Mike talks about the new weekly Mandalorian show under the SWCIC banner on this feed, there are no spoilers in this episode (so fear not!), but you can just skip to the 2 minute mark if you aren’t fussed!

Mike also recommends checking out the last four episodes of season 6 of The Clone Wars (episodes 10-13) as they centre around Yoda learning about force ghosts, Dagobah and other Force-related things (you don’t need to watch any other episodes of CW as these four standalone).

For Yoda’s Secret War, Jason Aaron was the writer, with Salvador Larroca as the artist and Edgar Delgado as the colourist. The cover artist was Stuart Immonen. Issue 26 was released December 2016 and issue 30 was out April 2017, the trade paperback (vol 5 of SW) was out July 2017 and this arc is included in the Journals Of Obi-Wan Kenobi collection released mid-November 2020.

Last week, in episode 32, Mike tackled the other 4 stories present in the Journals Of Old Ben/Obi-Wan which focus on his time on Tatooine, so be sure to check that out too!

How Far Is Too Far? – Hunting, Human Culling & Realistic Superpowers: GCC #27 With Wayne Telford & Josh Murray

This week marks the return of our favourite palaeontologist/author Wayne Telford, along with Josh (the co-host of “Science, But Simple”), discussing what superpowers would be the most ideal to use in a realistic (less vigilante-like) sense and which ones they think they’d get if they were a fictional character.

As well as the above, a fairly detailed discussion on human culling & utilitarianism takes reigns halfway through the talk, mentioning Thanos’ idea of balance and how, or if, it could work, followed by opinions on assisted suicide, “anti-natalism”, abortion and stem-cells.

Next week will technically be a part 2 of this chat, but we are having them as two separate podcast episodes as the second half of the chat delves into different topical territory, where religion & faith and palaeontology are discussed, as well as Josh, Wayne & Mike’s favourite water-dwelling, land-dwelling and extinct creatures, so anyone who’s interested in learning about some cool new animals and some of the crazy things they do, be sure to return!

Last week’s episode was a discussion had by Mike & his guest Steven on festivals, drugs & their relationship with alcohol, as well as drug reform, why Steven became a vegan and subsequently why he no longer is one, including factory farming, lab-grown meat and much more to sink your teeth into!

Discussions With An Ex-Vegan – GCC #26 – DIY Festivals, Veganism, Alcohol & The War On Drugs w/ Steven B

This week Mike talks to Steven B, a friend of his who used to be a vegan.

In the podcast Mike & Steven discuss festivals and why they think people should go to experience them at least once, as well as the “DIY” festival Mike will be attending next weekend. As well as this, they discuss drugs and their relationship with alcohol, as well as drug reform and America’s “War On Drugs” (including explaining in brief how the CIA got LSD/acid into the states), they then delve into the moral grey area that we as a society often find ourselves in, finishing the conversation off with why Steven became a vegan and subsequently why he no longer is one, including factory farming, lab-grown meat and much more to sink your teeth into!

Last week was another addition of “Science, But Simple” where Josh & Mike discuss what climate change/global warming actually if and how it affects the planet, along with earth’s tilt and how it creates the seasons and why places like Australia have summer while the UK has winter, as well as “race” & skin pigmentation and how melanin affects this.
As well as the above, deforestation, the ozone layer, methane and the gender of sea turtles are also discussed.

GCC #9 Part 2 – Dom Fullwood – Religious Extremism, Atheism & Christianity

In part 2 of Mike & Dom’s chat, they continue their discussion on gun laws, plus they speak about war, religious extremism (and how first world countries are often the cause of people getting involved with extremism), their opinions on religion – with Mike being an atheist and Dom being a christian it makes for a great discussion!

In Part 1 they speak about airsoft (as it’s one of Dom’s passions and Mike wants to try it sometime), animals in zoos and if it’s ever okay to hunt animals (Mike & Dom have differing views on the matter) and how guns should be handled by government both in the UK & in the US.
