Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Vader Vs The Handmaidens: Sabé & Dormé Question Joining The Empire, Plus Jul Tambor, Skako Minor & More (Darth Vader [2020] #30-32) – Ep 142

VADER CONFRONTS PADMÉ’S HANDMAIDENS BUT WILL THEY JOIN HIM OR REBEL? For ep 142, Mike continues with the 2020 run of Darth Vader comics, with another story surrounding Sabé & Dormé caught in the web of Vader, as they try to save innocents while fighting against Jul Tambor. As Vader’s web entangles the other handmaidens too causing them to ask themselves what they’re willing to sacrifice in order to save lives and if Sabé is truly working for the Dark Lord…

Darth Vader 30-32 were all written by Greg Pak, with colour artist Federico Blee. Luke Ross was artist on issue 30 while Ibraim Roberson was artist on issues 31 & 32. Issue 30 was released January 11^th 2023, issue 32 was released March 22^nd 2023 and the trade paperback collection was released 27^th June 2023.

VADER GOES TO EXEGOL & RETURNS TO MUSTAFAR! In ep 80, Mike embarks on the second volume of the 2020 Darth Vader comics; Into The Fire, where Palpatine tests Vader shortly after his failure in Empire Strikes Back, by sending him back to Mustafar to be hunted by the sith assassin; Ochi of Bestoon! In this story Vader battles many foes and even makes his way to Exegol (planet from The Rise Of Skywalker), plus Mike gives additional info on Coruscant, Mustafar, Sith homeworlds, the Eye of the Webbish Bog and more!

This story is set just after Empire Strikes Back (3ABY). The writer for these comics was Greg Pak, Raffaele Ienco was the artist and Neeraj Menon was the colour artist. Issue 6 was released October 2020, Issue 11 was released April 2021 and the trade paperback collection was released June 2021.

VADER FINDS PADMÉ’S HANDMAIDENS! For ep 79, Mike embarks on the first volume of the 2020 run of Darth Vader comics; Dark Heart Of The Sith, set shortly after the end of Empire Strikes Back! Vader searches for answers surrounding Padmé’s death over 20 years after it happened, travelling back to Tatooine, Naboo and even Polis Massa, all while being entangled with The Amidalans! Mike also tackles the short story found in Empire Ascendant and gives additional info on Death Troopers, Gregar Typho, Padmé’s handmaidens, Naboo’s aquatic creatures and more!

These comics are set after Empire Strikes Back (& after the first run of the Star Wars, but before the War Of the Bounty Hunters crossover). The writer for these comics is Greg Pak, Raffaele Ience was the artist and Neeraj Menon was colour artist. Issue 1 was released February 2020, Issue 5 was released September 2020 and the trade paperback collection was released November 2020. In Service To The Empire is a short story from Empire Ascendant 1, released in December 2019 and was also written by Greg Pak, with Roland Boschi as artist and Rachelle Rosenberg as colour artist.

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Destination Hoth: Vader Fights Chewie, Han Is Captured & Poe Dameron’s Parents; Kes & Shara Bey (Star Wars [2015] Vol 11: #73-75 & Empire Ascendant) – Ep 69

For ep 69, Mike embarks on the final issues of the 2015 main Star Wars run of comics; Rogues & Rebels/Destination Hoth! In this finale, Luke recovers his lightsaber, Han is captured by Boss Carpo, Chewbacca goes head-to-head with Darth Vader and C-3PO makes some new friends, while Empire Ascendant’s “An Echo Of Victory” provides a small window into the mindset of Poe Dameron’s parents; Shara Bey & Kes Dameron! Plus Mike provides information on the Wampas of Hoth and some history of A-Wings!

These stories are all set just before Empire Strikes Back, around 3 ABY.

Star Wars 73-75 were written by Greg Pak, with Phil Noto as the artist and colour artist. “An Echo Of Victory” from Empire Ascendant was written by Charles Soule with Luke Ross as artist, Guru eFX as colour artist. Issue 73 of Star Wars was released October 2019, issue 75 was released November 2019, Empire Ascendant was released December 2019 and the trade paperback collection was released March 2020.

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Rebels & Rogues: C-3PO Meets Vader, Luke Meets A Force User And Han & Leia Dance (Star Wars [2015] Vol 10: #68-72) – Ep 65

In ep 65, Mike embarks on the penultimate issues of the 2015 main Star Wars run of comics; Rebels & Rogues! In this story Luke wants to distract some imperials, but gets entangled with another force sensitive person, Han & Leia head to Lanz Carpo; a planet near Coruscant to try and frame it’s leader and Chewbacca & C-3PO venture to a planet of “rock people” and Darth Vader is right around the corner…

Also in Mike’s outro, he does a Palpatine impression, so be warned about that!

This story is set before Empire Strikes Back, around 1-3 ABY.

Please note this episode was originally released in March of 2021 on the feed of Comics In Motion.

The 4 main Age Of Republic comics were written by Greg Pak with Tamra Bonvillain as colourist and the following artists did artwork for these stories; Marc Deering, Chris Spouse, Karl Story, Will Sliney, Matteo Buffagni, Scott Koblish and Stefano Landini.

The Yoda story (in AoR special) was written by Marc Guggenheim, with Andrea Broccardo as artist and Dono Sánchez-Almara as the colour artist, while the Biggs Darklighter/Porkins story was written & drawn by Jon Adams while Chris O’Halloran did the colours.

The AoR Heroes trade paperback was released in August 2019 while the AoR hardcover (with heroes & villains) was released June 2020. The characters in this episode have also had a variety of mini-series between them so check out episodes; 14 for Leia, 24 & 40 for Han, 18 & 37 for Lando, 33 for Yoda and 22 for Chewbacca, as well as the variety of the main run of Star Wars comics for the usual trio!

In the last episode of SWCIC (episode 46), Mike tackled the weirdest (& potentially the best) instalment of Doctor Aphra so far, where Aphra has been enslaved by the homicidal protocol droid Triple-Zero to assemble a crew to steal his lost memories from some of the most secure imperial archive facilities, causing further entanglement with imperial Magna Tolvan, the capture of rebel general Hera Syndulla, setting imperial experiments free and much more!

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Ep 43: Boba’s Hunt, Tarkin’s Scars, Jabba’s Deal & Vader Disobeys (Age Of Rebellion Villains)

This episode of Star Wars: Comics In Canon features the 5 villains stories in the Age Of Rebellion one-shot comic series (from original trilogy); Grand Moff Tarkin in “Tooth & Claw”, Boba Fett in “Hunter’s Heart”, Jabba The Hutt in “Great To Be Jabba”, Darth Vader in “To The Letter” and IG-88 in “The Long Game”, Mike also gives additional information about each of the characters, connections, bounty hunters, species and more!

The 4 main Age Of Republic comics were written by Greg Pak, with the IG-88 story (in the AoR special) written by Simon Spurrier. For Tarkin & Boba Fett, Marc Laming was the artist and Neeraj Menon was colourists, with Jordan Boyd also doing colouring for Tarkin. Jabba’s 3 artists were Emilio Laiso, Roland Boschi & Marco Turini with the 3 colourists Andres Mossa, Rachelle Rosenberg & Neeraj Menon. For Vader, Rámon Bachs was the artist and Stéphane Paitreau was colourist, for IG-88 Casper Wijngaard was the artist and Lee Loughridge was colourist.

Tarkin’s comic and the AoR Special were released in April 2019, with Darth Vader being released June 2019 (with the other stories released in-between). The AoR Villains trade paperback was released in September 2019 while the AoR hardcover (with heroes & villains) was released June 2020.

In the last episode of SWCIC (episode 42), Mike tackled the 2nd (or 3rd) story-arc of the first run of Doctor Aphra comics, called The Enormous Profit, where Aphra tries to sell the reactivated crystal of the ancient jedi Rur to a group of wealthy bidders at a special auction and unsurprisingly, things don’t go to plan, especially when Darth Vader shows up! The annual also gives more back story to the brutal wookiee bounty hunter; Black Krrsantan!
