Star Wars: Comics In Canon: Trail Of Shadows: Unravelling The High Republic’s Greatest Mystery; Emerick Caphtor & Sian Holt Investigate The Leveler/Nameless, Plus Nihil, Tarnab & Doctor Uttersound (Trail oS #1-5) – Ep 96

WHAT IS TURNING THE JEDI TO STONE? AN INVESTIGATION IS NEEDED! Ep 96 features Trail Of Shadows; one of the last pieces of High Republic material from Phase 1, Jedi investigator Emerick Caphtor & private investigator Sian Holt must work together to unravel the mystery of what the nihil possess that is calcifying jedi, which spirals out to a much larger conspiracy than either had ever imagined! As well as the story, Mike gives information on the Tarnab species, Doctor Uttersound & more.

Trail Of Shadows was written by Daniel José Older, with David Wachter as artist and Giada Marchisio as colour artist. Issue 1 was released October 2021, Issue 5 was released February 2022, with the trade paperback collection released April 2022.

MARCHION RO’S HISTORY IS REVEALED! Ep 94 features the final High Republic comics are out meaning Mike is embarking on the two Eye Of The Storm comics, which detail Marchion Ro’s upbringing and rise to power in the Nihil, the history of his people the Evereni, where the Nameless/Leveler came from, how the galaxy reacted to the events of The Fallen Star and much more!

These High Republic comics are set during/after 230BBY, in the first phase & third wave of the High Republic, chronologically after The Fallen Star & all other phase 1 High Republic content.

Eye Of The Storm 1 was released 12th January 2022, issue 2 was released March 2nd 2022 and both issues are included within the trade paperback of The High Republic comics, called The Jedi’s End.

Charles Soule is the writer of these comics, with Guillermo Sanna as the artist and Jim Campbell as colour artist on both issues, with Antonio Fabela also as colour artist on issue 2.

Star Wars: The Fallen Star by Claudia Gray, Book Review & Overview – Starlight Beacon, Stellan Gios, Elzar Mann, Burryaga, Bell Zettifar & The Nihil – The High Republic (Phase 1, Wave 3)

It’s time for another spoiler-free book review from the High Republic era! This book is the last of the adult novels for the first phase; it’s The Fallen Star by Claudia Gray! This book is set after The Rising Storm in the third wave of the High Republic’s first phase, set at the same time as Mission to Disaster & Midnight Horizon (which Mike will be tackling in the near future)!

In more detail, Mike confirms where TFS sits in the timeline, provides background info on the book & Claudia Gray, before giving his spoiler-free thoughts. Mike then reads the blurb & crawl and gives his thoughts on the themes & characters, which features some minor spoilers, including some tidbits of information. Mike then finishes his review by providing more-detailed thoughts on the book, it’s ending and confirming the general plot. This is a perfect review for anyone interested in the final adult novel of the High Republic’s first phase; whether you are soon to read it, or have already finished it!

The Fallen Star was released January 4th 2022 and is by Claudia Gray. For The High Republic, she also wrote the young adult novel Into The Dark (Phase 1, Wave 1). She also wrote the non-High-Republic SW books Master & Apprentice, Lost Stars, Leia: Princess Of Alderaan and Bloodline.

In ep 92, Mike embarked on the finale of the High Republic comics, which is the third volume, called The Jedi’s End – it takes place just before The Fallen Star. In these comics Keeve faces the true face of fear in The Leveler while Sskeer loses his connection to the force, plus Avar Kriss is relentlessly pursuing Lourna Dee at any cost. Amidst this story, Mike also gives additional information on the Frozian, Ugor and Latero species!

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – THR: Jedi & Nihil Parallel Stories, Lightsaber Forms & New Characters, Introducing Lula Talisola, Zeen Mrala, Young Yoda & More (High Republic Adventures [2020] Vol 1: #1-5, Phase 1, Wave 1) – Ep 86

TWO FRIENDS; ONE TAKEN BY NIHIL, ONE TAKEN BY JEDI – PARALLEL PLOT-LINES AFOOT! Mike starts episode 86 with some background information on The High Republic as well as Daniel José Older’s other Star Wars works, before delving into the first volume of High Republic Adventures comics! As well as confirming the plot of the comics, which detail padawan Lula Talisola and Zeen Mrala’s respective journeys, Krix’s fall into the Nihil and more, including what a 664 year-old Yoda is up to! Mike also gives a summary on the 7 lightsaber forms for combat (between the 10 & 17 minute mark), and then throughout the episode talks about species including Chagrian, Mikkian, Zygerrian & more (including the mysterious Savrip) as well as many more connections these comics have to the rest of the Star Wars Universe!

These High Republic comics are set in 232BBY, in the first phase & first wave of the High Republic.

The High Republic Adventures 1 was released 3rd February 2021, issue 5 was released June 16th 2021 and the trade paperback collection was released November 16th 2021. Daniel José Older is the writer of these comics, with Harvey Tolibao as artist and Rebecca Nalty as the colour artist. Pow Rodrix also helped with the art on issues 2 & 5 and Manuel Bracchi also helped on issue 5.

Into The Dark was released February 2nd 2021 by Claudia Gray. She has also written the young adult novels Lost Stars and Leia: Princess Of Alderaan, as well as the “adult” novels Master & Apprentice and Bloodline. She has also recently announced The Fallen Star; the third “adult” book in The High Republic era.

Into The Dark is from Phase 1, Wave 1 of The High Republic, also in Wave 1 is Light Of The Jedi and A Test Of Courage. Phase 1, Wave 2 includes The Rising Storm, Out Of The Shadows and Race To Crashpoint Tower and Wave 3 (due early 2022) will include Claudia Gray’s “adult” novel The Fallen Star plus junior-novel Mission To Disaster and young-adult novel Midnight Horizon.

Star Wars: A Test Of Courage by Justina Ireland Review & Overview – Vernestra Rwoh, Imri Cantaros, Dalna & More – The High Republic Era, Phase 1 Wave 1

This ep, Mike is doing another High Republic spoiler-free book review; A Test Of Courage by Justina Ireland! Although the book is aimed at “middle-school” readers, this is a book that will appeal to all ages due to the writing, characters and themes throughout.

In more detail, for the first half of the episode, Mike gives a bit of information on the other releases for The High Republic (the first two waves within Phase 1) and then delves into his spoiler-free review; primarily providing information from the blurb and within the first few pages; talking about the book’s themes and what he enjoyed about it.

In the second half, Mike provides more details on the new characters and gives examples on how the book’s themes work so well with the story being told, which falls into light-spoiler territory. He gives plenty of warning before delving into his more detailed review, so you can listen to as little or as much info about AToC before picking it up yourself – Mike ends the review with a spoiler-free overview of the first 3 High Republic books and talking about where they fit chronologically with the comics & other High Republic content.

Spoiler-Free Book Review – Light Of The Jedi by Charles Soule & An Introduction To The High Republic Era (Star Wars Canon)

In this episode of Star Wars: Comics In Canon, week Mike is doing a book review on Charles Soule’s Light Of The Jedi as well as giving an overview in the new era of Star Wars; The High Republic!

For more detail, for the first 20 minutes, Mike gives some information on The High Republic era (set 200 years before The Phantom Menace) before delving into the review – his reviews are split into 3 parts; the first is completely spoiler free, with some vague information on the book’s themes, vehicles & etc while the second will have some very light spoilers, plot details and character information with the last part giving more information about certain aspects and Mike reads out a single page that he believes give a good insight into the book as a whole, but for clarity, he does not spoil the story or what happens to any characters in this recording.

Light Of The Jedi was released January 5th 2021 by Charles Soule who has also written Star Wars comics including; The Rise Of Kylo Ren mini-series (ep 1 of SWCIC) the Obi-Wan & Anakin mini-series (ep 11 of SWCIC), the Lando mini-series (ep 18 of SWCIC), as well as the 31-issue run of Poe Dameron and 25-issue run of Darth Vader comics (2017) – Mike will be tackling the Poe & Vader series in the future too!
