Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Quest For Planet X by Tessa Gratton – Book Review & Plot Summary/Overview: Hyperspace Chase, Rooper Nitani, Dass Leffbruk, Sky Graf & The Path Of The Open Hand – The High Republic Phase 2

THE GREAT HYPERSPACE CHASE IS UNDERWAY, AS A TRIO OF TEENAGERS TRY TO FIND A MYSTERIOUS PLANET! This ep is another High Republic review/overview and it’s the junior novel for Phase 2, Wave 2; Quest For Planet X by Tessa Gratton. In this sequel to Quest For The Hidden City, Rooper Nitani, Dass Leffbruk and Sky Graf all try to find Planet X, each for their own reasons. The trio are confronted with The Path Of The Open Hand, rival hyperspace families, a peculiar spacefaring compass and more!

In this episode, Mike provides information on where this book fits into the timeline before giving his spoiler-free thoughts. He then reads the crawl and gives some minor plot details & character info, along with his thoughts. He then gives a major spoiler warning and reads the blurb/publisher’s summary before giving his full thoughts on the whole book, it’s characters and the themes while giving an overview of the whole book’s plot and what it means for the future of The High Republic!

This episode was first released on the feed of Comics In Motion, in July 2023.

Quest For Planet X was written by Tessa Gratton, was released April 4th 2023 and takes place in Wave 2 of Phase 2 in The High Republic (approx. 150 years before Phase 1); 382 BBY, and is a sequel to Quest For The Hidden City.

Phase 2 book reviews were released; Path Of Deceit on 7th Jan, Quest For Hidden City on February 14th, Convergence on March 18th, The Battle Of Jedha on April 22nd and Cataclysm on 17th June. The first volume of phase 2 Marvel comics were tackled in episode 126 (out May 13th 2023) and the first vol of High Republic Adventures comic (Dark Horse) were released in ep 132 (7th July).

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Out Of The Shadows by Justina Ireland Review & Overview – Vernestra Rwoh, Sylvestri Yarrow, Reath Silas, Cohmac Vitus & Hyperspace Lore – The High Republic (Phase 1, Wave 2)

This ep is another spoiler-free book review from the High Republic era, with the final book in the second wave (of the first phase); Out Of The Shadows by Justina Ireland – the young adult novel which is set shortly after The Rising Storm & Race to Crashpoint Tower, with a bunch of new and familiar characters from Into The Dark, A Test Of Courage and more!

In more detail, Mike confirms OOTS sits in the timeline and what other SW content Justina Ireland has released, before providing his fully spoiler-free review of the book. Mike then reads the blurb & crawl of the book and gives his thoughts on the themes & characters which features some very minor spoilers, including some interesting lore on Hyperspace. After providing these thoughts, Mike finishes his review by providing more-detailed thoughts on the book and confirms the general plot (including the ending) of the book.

Out Of The Shadows was released July 27th 2021 and is by Justina Ireland. For The High Republic, she also wrote the junior novel A Test Of Courage, the manga Edge of Balance and Mission To Disaster (Phase 1, Wave 3). She also wrote the non-High-Republic SW books Lando’s Luck, Spark Of The Resistance and the one-shot comic War Of The Bounty Hunters: Jabba The Hutt 1.

Out Of The Shadows is the young adult novel of the second wave of the High Republic’s first phase along with the “adult” novel The Rising Storm (reviewed in November 2021) and the junior novel Race To Crashpoint Tower (reviewed in February 2022), all set in 231BBY. Wave 3 (due early 2022) will include Claudia Gray’s “adult” novel The Fallen Star plus junior-novel Mission To Disaster by Justina Ireland and Daniel José Older’s young-adult novel Midnight Horizon.

Mike has reviewed all books from the first wave of phase 1 in 2021, which are Light Of The Jedi (reviewed March), A Test Of Courage (August) & Into The Dark (October), all of which take place in 232BBY.

In ep 90, Mike tackled the 2nd volume of High Republic Adventures comics, where two padawans & an ancient jedi master head to Nal Hutta along with crew from The Vessel – this journey brings plenty of reflection and lessons learned. Plus after Race To Crashpoint Tower, some characters are reunited all while Maz Kanata’s castle on Takodana is attacked by the Nihil with only a single jedi there to defend! Plus Mike delves into the Parwan, Kyuzo and Rancor species & more!

Spoiler-Free Book Review – Light Of The Jedi by Charles Soule & An Introduction To The High Republic Era (Star Wars Canon)

In this episode of Star Wars: Comics In Canon, week Mike is doing a book review on Charles Soule’s Light Of The Jedi as well as giving an overview in the new era of Star Wars; The High Republic!

For more detail, for the first 20 minutes, Mike gives some information on The High Republic era (set 200 years before The Phantom Menace) before delving into the review – his reviews are split into 3 parts; the first is completely spoiler free, with some vague information on the book’s themes, vehicles & etc while the second will have some very light spoilers, plot details and character information with the last part giving more information about certain aspects and Mike reads out a single page that he believes give a good insight into the book as a whole, but for clarity, he does not spoil the story or what happens to any characters in this recording.

Please note this episode was originally released in March of 2021 on the feed of Comics In Motion.

Light Of The Jedi was released January 5th 2021 by Charles Soule who has also written Star Wars comics including; The Rise Of Kylo Ren mini-series (ep 1 of SWCIC) the Obi-Wan & Anakin mini-series (ep 11 of SWCIC), the Lando mini-series (ep 18 of SWCIC), as well as the 31-issue run of Poe Dameron and 25-issue run of Darth Vader comics (2017) – Mike will be tackling the Poe & Vader series in the future too!

Other High Republic content currently available includes; A Test Of Courage – a young reader novel by Justina Ireland, Into The Dark – a young adult novel by Claudia Gray (who Mike spoke with on SWCIC on December 12th), The High Republic comics by Cavan Scott and High Republic Adventures comics by Daniel José Older, plus Cavan Scott has the “sequel” novel to Light Of The Jedi coming out on July 6th 2021.
