Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Yoda Series Vol 2: Yoda Enters The Dark Side Cave And An Old Mission With Anakin, Plus General Grievous & The Cave of Evil (Yoda Volume 2: #7-10) – Ep 139

YODA MUST MAKE PEACE WITH HIS PAST AND RE-ENTER THE DARK SIDE CAVE! For ep 139, Mike continues with the Yoda series by delving into the second half. We get another flashback, this time from the Clone Wars with Anakin and Yoda then argues with a ghostly voice about entering the “Cave of Evil” on Dagobah. Mike also gives information on General Grievous, as well as other familiar faces that pop up in these comics!

Yoda 7, 8 & 9 were written by Marc Guggenheim with Alessandro Miracolo as artist and Annalisa Leoni as colour artist, while Yoda 10 was written by Cavan Scott with art by Ibraim Roberson and colour art by Neeraj Menon. Issue 7 was released May 3^rd 2023, issue 10 was released August 2^nd 2023 and the trade paperback collection will be released 19^th December 2023.

MARDA & YANA RO’S JOURNEY WRAPS UP IN THE FINAL PIECE OF PHASE 2 HIGH REPUBLIC! This ep is the final High Republic review/summary for Phase 2 and it’s the adult novel Path Of Vengeance by Cavan Scott. In this sequel to Path of Deceit, we see Marda & Yana’s perspectives while the prior events in Phase 2 occur, including the Battles Of Jedha & Dalna, with more information on the mysterious nameless creatures, the identity of The Mother and more from Matthea Cathley & Oliviah Zeveron!

In this episode, Mike reads the crawl and gives his spoiler-free thoughts, he then reads the publisher’s summary/blurb which leads into giving some minor plot details and some thoughts on characters & themes. He then gives a final spoiler warning and providing his detailed thoughts on the whole book including characters, plot details and more, all while providing a plot summary/overview! In ep 135, Mike delves back into Phase 2’s High Republic comics to finish them off, so we continue following Vildar Mac, Matthea Cathley & Tey Sirrek as they try to untangle the mess left by the Path Of The Open Hand from the Battle Of Jedha, all while avoiding the fearsome tendrils of The Leveler! As Mike takes you through this tale, he also provides information on the 3 Bogan Collections, Gloovians, the Enlightenment tap bar & more!

This episode was first released on the feed of Comics In Motion, in August 2023.

All of these comics were written by Cavan Scott and the colour artist was Frank William. Ario Anindito was the penciller for issues 6, 9 & 10 with Mark Morales as inker, while Andrea Broccardo & Marika Cresta were artists on issue 7 and David Messina was artist on issue 8.

WHAT DID YODA DO BEFORE THE HIGH REPUBLIC AND HOW WAS HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH DOOKU BEFORE THE PHANTOM MENACE? For ep 131, Mike delves the first 6 issues, which contain 2 story arcs; the first set during the High Republic era where he goes to the planet Turrak to help Scalvi natives, while the second is set before The Phantom Menace, where Yoda asks Dooku to help train some initiates, but when a Wookiee has a vision about a Trandoshian initiate, tensions rise, especially with Yoda & Dooku’s conflicting views on such matters. Star Wars: Comics In Canon – Before The Battle Of Jedha, Vildar Mac, Matty & Tey Search For Stolen Artifacts (High Republic [2022] Vol 1: Balance Of The Force #1-5) – Ep 126

AS THE PHASE 2 COMICS COMMENCE, TENSIONS ON JEDHA ARE RISING… For ep 126, Mike delves into the first volume of High Republic comics in the second phase, following Jedi Vildar Mac, padawan Matty, the Sephi Tey Sirrek, Guardians Of The Whills, The Path of The Open Hand and more! Mike explores this Jedha-based story, noting along the way how it connects to the rest of the High Republic while providing information along the way – this serves as a perfect prequel to The Battle Of Jedha audiodrama by George Mann (which Mike tackled on this show a few episodes prior).

This episode was first released on the feed of Comics In Motion, in May 2023.

These comics are in Phase 2, Wave 1 of The High Republic, which is 150 years before Phase 1, making it 350 years before The Phantom Menace (382BBY).

All of these comics were written by Cavan Scott and the colour artist was Frank William. Ario Anindito was the penciller for issues 1-3 with Mark Morales as inker, while Andrea Broccardo was artist for issues 4 & 5 and the Peace & Unity mini-comic.

Other Phase 2 High Republic content Mike has released are book reviews, all in 2023, are; Path Of Deceit on 7th Jan, Quest For Hidden City on February 14th, Convergence on March 18th and The Battle Of Jedha on April 22nd. A review for Cataclysm & the other phase 2 books will follow, as will THR comics, The Blade and other phase 2 content.

In the last episode (125), Mike delved into the second & final volume of the Han Solo & Chewbacca series, where Chewie finds himself in a prison with Maz Kanata and the young Phaedra, while Han recovers from being shot by Greedo. The duo must perform a heist all while avoiding a marshall, bounty hunters, the empire and more – plus Mike gives information on Korin Pers, the Gran & Chagrian species and gives an insight in what’s to come for the upcoming Dark Droids crossover event!

Tales From The Rancor Pit: Ty Yorrick Fights A Xunji, Haunted Droids Attack, A Wampa Fights Dragon Slugs & the Hassarian Storyteller – Ep 118

A HASSARIAN BEGS JABBA FOR HIS LIFE BY TELLING 3 SPOOKY STORIES! For ep 118, Mike delves into the latest of Cavan Scott’s horror comics; Tales From The Rancor Pit, where 3 horror stories from across the Star Wars galaxy are recounted to the gangster Jabba The Hutt! One features haunted droids during the Clone Wars, the second features monster hunter Ty Yorrick during the High Republic era and the last features Han Solo, Leia & Chewbacca dealing with local creatures on Hoth, set shortly before the Empire attack! Mike also gives information on Hassarians, Cereans, Wampas, LEP droids and more!

This episode was first released on the feed of Comics In Motion, in January 2023.

Tales From The Rancor Pit was released in full on November 23rd 2022 and was written by Cavan Scott. Nick Brokenshire did the artwork & colouring for the framing story, which is set between Empire Strikes Back & Return Of The Jedi. Ghosts Of The Machine’s artwork & colours were done by Juan Samu, with the story set during the Clone Wars (22-19BBY), Undead or Alive is set during the High Republic Era (before Light Of The Jedi) and has artwork by Andy Duggan with colours by Roman Stevens, and In The Lair of The Dragon Slug is set just before Empire Strikes ack (3ABY) and has art by Rafael Pérez and colours by DJ Chavis.

Mike tackled Cavan Scott’s 3 other anthology horror comics; Tales of Vader’s Castle, in episodes 76, 103 & 112 of SWCIC. Mike tackled the Mace Windu mini-series in episode 16 of SWCIC and the Ty Yorrick mini-series The Monster Of Temple Peak was in episode 87.

In ep 117, Mike delved into the 5 issues of Doctor Aphra set after Crimson Reign, featuring the Spark Eternal possessing Aphra, trapping her inside her own memories with no one to speak with aside from a long-dead Chadra-Fan. Meanwhile, Sana Starros puts a crew together to find Aphra while Just Lucky is hotly in pursuit! As well as this plot, Mike provides further information on Cortosis, the Mairan species, the Droid Crush and more!

The continuous story is set just after Return Of The Jedi (around 4-5ABY). The writer for these comics was Cavan Scott and Francesco Francavilla is the artist & colour artist for the continuous story. For issue 1, Megan Levens is the flashback artist and Charlie Kirchoff is the flashback colour artist. Derek Charm, Robert Hack and Chris Fenoglio each did artwork & colours on the flashbacks of issues 2, 3 & 4 respectively. Issues 1-5 were released in September/October 2021, the trade paperback collection was released January 2022.

The first batch of Vader’s Castle stories was tackled in episode 76 of SWCIC and the second batch was in ep 103. Mike delved into all four volumes of 2017 Vader in ep 62, 66, 70 & 74 of SWCIC. IT’S TIME FOR MORE MONSTER STORIES! For ep 103, Mike is delving into the canon comics by IDW Publishing; Return To Vader’s Castle – 5 more horror stories with many familiar faces, character information & connections all perfect for any lover of horror & Star Wars! This episode includes Vader, Darth Maul, Asajj Ventress, Tarkin, Jabba The Hutt & B’omarr Monks, zombies, sarlaccs, Frankenstein-like monsters and a whole bunch of references & connections to Star Wars and horror movies!

This episode was first released on the feed of Comics In Motion, in August 2022.

The continuous story is set somewhere in the original trilogy era (between 0ABY – 4ABY) and the other stories are all over the prequel & original trilogy era! The writer for these comics was Cavan Scott and Francesco Francavilla is the artist & colour artist for the continuous story. The guest artists are Megan Levens, Kelley Jones, Nick Brokenshire, Nicoletta Baldari & Charles Paul Wilson III and the guest colour artists are Charlie Kirchoff, Michelle Madsen, Nick Brokenshire, Nicoletta Baldari & David Garcia Cruz.

Issues 1-5 were released in October 2019, the trade paperback collection was released March 2020 and the hardcover collection of this & the previous collection; Tales Of Vaders Castle was released January 2021.

The first batch of Vader’s Castle stories was tackled in episode 76 of SWCIC. Mike delved into all four volumes of 2017 Vader in ep 62, 66, 70 & 74 of SWCIC. In ep 84, Mike starts by giving background information on this new era of Star Wars (including reading orders, timelines & his previously released High Republic content) before embarking on the first volume of High Republic comics, which introduces padawan Keeve Trennis, Trandoshian Jedi master Sskeer, as well as showcasing Starlight Beacon, Jedi Master Avar Kriss, the force-bonded twins Ceret & Terec and the fearsome living plants; the Drengir. Plus Mike gives plenty of additional information on Ximpi, Rodians, Artiodacs and more!

These High Republic comics are set in 232BBY, in the first phase & first wave of the High Republic.

The High Republic 1 was released 6th January 2021, issue 5 was released May 12th 2021 and the trade paperback collection was released September 7th 2021.

Cavan Scott is the writer of these comics, with Ario Anindito as penciller, Mark Morales as inker and Annalisa Leoni as the colour artist.

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – What Is Life Day? Han & Chewie’s Holiday Special; Anthology Stories About Wookiees, Sarlaccs And During The High Republic Era! (Life Day #1: Paid On Delivery, Gift Of Light & Deck The Halls) – Ep 83

HAPPY LIFE DAY! To celebrate this special time of year, Mike embarks on the Life Day anthology comic, which contains a total of four stories! As well as giving plenty of information on Life Day, Mike goes through each of the stories (3 of which include Han & Chewie), providing connections to many things, including Chewie’s family & culture, Sarlaccs, the Arcona species and more!

The main story is set somewhere after Return Of The Jedi but before The Force Awakens, while Deck The Halls is set in the High Republic era (231BBY), Paid On Delivery is between Solo (10BBY) & A new Hope (0BBY) and Gift Of Light is set within the original trilogy (0ABY-4ABY).

This episode was originally released on the feed of Comics In Motion in December 2021!

Life Day 1 was released 24th November 2021. The main story/framing sequence is written by Cavan Scott, with Ivan Fiorelli as artist and Chris Sotomayor as colour artist. Regarding Deck The Halls, Justina Ireland is the writer with Georges Jeanty as penciller, Victor Olazaba as inker and Pete Pantazis as colour artist. Paid On Delivery was written by Steve Orlando with Paul Fry as artist and Alex Sinclair as colour artist. Gift Of Light was written by Jody Houser with Kei Zama as artist and Ruth Redmond as colour artist.

In the last ep (82), Mike embarked on the final issues of the War Of The Bounty Hunters crossover event. In the finale, Qi’ra meets Leia, Boba & Valance try to retrieve the carbonite-frozen Han Solo, Aphra finds an ancient dark side artifact, Vader punishes the Hutt Council, IG-88 is rebuilt and more! Plus Mike gives additional info on the Knights Of Ren, the various IG droids, a “Thought Dowser” as well as plenty of other connections!

Sar Wars: Comics In Canon – THR: The Rising Storm by Cavan Scott, Review & Overview – Nihil Attack The Republic Fair On Valo, Plus Ty Yorrick, Elzar Mann & The Tempest Runner – The High Republic (Phase 1, Wave 2)

This episode, Mike is doing another spoiler-free book review & plot overview from the High Republic’s second wave; The Rising Storm by Cavan Scott – the “main adult” novel with a huge amount of characters, major plot points and shocking moments!

In more detail, in the first half, Mike gives a information on the other releases for The High Republic (the first two waves within Phase 1), gives some background/plot information on the book and then delves into his spoiler-free review; providing information from the blurb, the themes, how it continues from Light Of The Jedi, what he enjoyed about it, which characters have returned and details found within the first few pages. Mike then reads out the blurb & crawl before providing more details on the characters and their general journeys/thoughts, the state of the Republic at the start of this book, the wider themes and how they impact story elements, as well as how it fits in with other High Republic material, which all falls into light-spoiler territory. He then talks about “connected content”, primarily the tie-in High Republic comics and gives a mini-review of the Tempest Runner audio drama before giving plenty of warning and delving into his more detailed review, which still doesn’t fully spoil the book but it does mention some plot details right at the very end, so you can listen to as little or as much info about The Rising Storm before picking it up yourself.

He has also written the Dooku Jedi Lost audio drama, The Tempest Runner audio drama (set just after this book), as well as one story from each A Certain Point Of View book, all of Marvel’s standard The High Republic comics plus several titles under Star Wars Adventures for IDW publishing including the Monster Of Temple Peak mini-series, all 3 sets of Vader’s Castle stories and Adventures In Wild Space.

The Rising Storm is the adult novel of the second wave of the High Republic’s first phase along with Out Of The Shadows and Race To Crashpoint Tower, while Wave 3 (out 2022) includes The Fallen Star, Mission To Disaster and Midnight Horizon.

From the first wave of phase 1 is Light Of The Jedi, A Test Of Courage & Into The Dark, which Mike has reviewed on this show in 2021; LotJ was March, AToC was August and ItD was October.
