The stories take place in phases 1 & 2 of the High Republic, giving closure to some characters, revealing more about others and connecting the dots before we delve into Phase 3! 5 SHORT STORIES SPANNING PHASE 1 OF THE HIGH REPUBLIC! Ep 113 brings the final piece of High Republic content for Phase 1 – Starlight Stories; which are all set around non-Jedi characters on Starlight Beacon between Light Of The Jedi and The Fallen Star. Mike gives a brief overview of the High Republic & its first phase, before delving into the stories themselves; Go Together by Charles Soule which serves as a prologue and epilogue to Light Of The Jedi, while First Duty & Past Mistakes by Cavan Scott and Hidden Danger & Shadows Remain by Justina Ireland centre around Velko Jahen & Ghal Tarpfen; two security officers of Starlight Beacon as the looming threat of the Nihil unfolds…

Star Wars: The Fallen Star by Claudia Gray, Book Review & Overview – Starlight Beacon, Stellan Gios, Elzar Mann, Burryaga, Bell Zettifar & The Nihil – The High Republic (Phase 1, Wave 3)

It’s time for another spoiler-free book review from the High Republic era! This book is the last of the adult novels for the first phase; it’s The Fallen Star by Claudia Gray! This book is set after The Rising Storm in the third wave of the High Republic’s first phase, set at the same time as Mission to Disaster & Midnight Horizon (which Mike will be tackling in the near future)!

In more detail, Mike confirms where TFS sits in the timeline, provides background info on the book & Claudia Gray, before giving his spoiler-free thoughts. Mike then reads the blurb & crawl and gives his thoughts on the themes & characters, which features some minor spoilers, including some tidbits of information. Mike then finishes his review by providing more-detailed thoughts on the book, it’s ending and confirming the general plot. This is a perfect review for anyone interested in the final adult novel of the High Republic’s first phase; whether you are soon to read it, or have already finished it!

The Fallen Star was released January 4th 2022 and is by Claudia Gray. For The High Republic, she also wrote the young adult novel Into The Dark (Phase 1, Wave 1). She also wrote the non-High-Republic SW books Master & Apprentice, Lost Stars, Leia: Princess Of Alderaan and Bloodline.

In these comics Keeve faces the true face of fear in The Leveler while Sskeer loses his connection to the force, plus Avar Kriss is relentlessly pursuing Lourna Dee at any cost. Amidst this story, Mike also gives additional information on the Frozian, Ugor and Latero species!

In ep 84, Mike starts by giving background information on this new era of Star Wars (including reading orders, timelines & his previously released High Republic content) before embarking on the first volume of High Republic comics, which introduces padawan Keeve Trennis, Trandoshian Jedi master Sskeer, as well as showcasing Starlight Beacon, Jedi Master Avar Kriss, the force-bonded twins Ceret & Terec and the fearsome living plants; the Drengir. Plus Mike gives plenty of additional information on Ximpi, Rodians, Artiodacs and more!

These High Republic comics are set in 232BBY, in the first phase & first wave of the High Republic.

The High Republic 1 was released 6th January 2021, issue 5 was released May 12th 2021 and the trade paperback collection was released September 7th 2021.

Star Wars: Comics In Canon – SW 2020: Tarkin’s Legacy, Commander Zahra & Operation Starlight! Plus Lobot, Eriadu, Veermoks, Poe’s Parents & More (Star Wars [2020] Vol 2: #7-12) – Ep 78

THE LEGACY OF TARKIN EMERGES! For ep 78, Mike continues the 2020 run of Star Wars comics with the full second volume; Operation Starlight, set shortly after the end of Empire Strikes Back! As well as introducing Commander Zahra and Tarkin’s Will, these issues show the rebellion developing a new way to communicate due to the Empire cracking their code, with Lobot being invaluable and a flashback about Han and Poe’s parents! Mike also gives additional info on Starlight Squadron, Eriadu, The Redemption (ship), Veermoks and more!

This story is set after Empire Strikes Back (& after the first run of the Star Wars, but before the War Of the Bounty Hunters crossover). The writer for these comics is Charles Soule, Ramon Rosanas was the artist for issues 7, 8 & 12, with Jan Bazaldua as artist for issues 9, 10 & 11 and Rachelle Rosenberg was colour artist for all issues. Issue 7 was released October 2020, Issue 12 was released March 2021 and the trade paperback collection (of issues 7-11) was released April 2021.
