MSN: Aggressive Messenger: “Tomboys”, Old Man Slippers & Pre -Facebook Internet – GCC #31 with Dom Fullwood

This week’s chat is all over the place in all the right ways – there’s no specific genre or topic; just two dudes having a discussion about this, that & everything, including how apparently great it is to drive barefoot?

Dom is the returning guest this week, with a conversation that doesn’t stop bouncing from subject to subject – listing everything would take far too long (and would be dull to read) but a few notable topics were language & the differences between UK-English and American-English, how hard it is for our generation to buy property, the younger generation and the internet days just-before Facebook.

As well as the above, men’s outfits, clothing and shoes are discussed in a surprising amount of detail, the differences we found in school between boys & girls (including the term “Tomboy”), pizza, dog names and Dom’s great advice “opening a window is free” – these and more are all discussed this week!

Next week Dom is back again, but it’ll be for a more specific discussion about politics, especially discussing Brexit, the left & the right and how we must find balance between them, the “ideal world” and much more!

Publishers Are Ruining Video Games: Pay-To-Win, Creative Control, Violence & Boob-Physics – GCC #30 Part 2 with Rhys Willis & Josh Murray

This week brings part 2 of Mike’s chat with Rhys & Josh regarding video games and this part is primarily about the current state of the industry and the politics involved.

This chat continues on why Star Wars Battlefront 2 was such a disgrace to the gaming industry/community and how loot boxes, pre-orders, season passes & micro-transactions are so dangerous for the industry as a whole.
After discussing this and including names such as EA & Ubisoft, they discuss the various “special editions” of games that come out, they then speak about Visceral’s death as a company & the Dead Space trilogy, followed by how game publishers treat the creative teams behind such games, before finishing off by speaking about the James Gunn controversy (Guardians Of The Galaxy director), how political correctness effects games including “self-aware” games like Doki Doki Literature Club, “boob-physics” and women in the gaming industry (including a discussion about Bayonetta & the sexuality of her character).

If you haven’t already checked out part 1 and enjoyed this episode, be sure to go back & check it out!
In part 1 of their chat, they discuss a few random topics for the first few minutes before having a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about games such as Crash Bandicoot, Halo, Jak & Daxter, Devil May Cry & more – they then discuss cheat codes & Easter eggs and how they used to come in books with gaming magazines, rather than just online like nowadays.
Following this, they delve into the world of Steam’s game curation, which steadily turns into a discussion surrounding loot boxes & micro-transactions, they also *briefly*discuss Bitcoin & mining for cryptocurrencies, before delving into why Mike is such a let-down for pre-ordering Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Last week Mike spoke with Steve, a homosexual friend of his about his coming out story, what it was like growing up gay in the 1980s, Polari the “secret gay language”, transgender people in sports, the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, the “gay agenda” and so much more, so be sure to check that out too!

The guests Josh & Rhys have been in a few other podcasts, they were both in a discussion about transgender identity in politics (episode 14 “Just Don’t Be A Dick”), Rhys featured in the first ever episode too, about if it’s ever okay to “punch a nazi” and Josh has featured in several others, including being the co-host of the “Science, But Simple” mini-series on GCC too!

Remembering Dad – GCC #24: Father’s Day Special: Our Journey Through The Passing Of Our Father, Stephen Burton w/ Rob Burton

This week’s release is an especially emotional & important release for me (Mike). Today marks Father’s Day in the UK, so I wanted to release something about my father, Stephen Burton, who passed away in May of 2013 of oesophageal cancer.
This episode includes discussions of death of a family member and some details about their death, so please be warned of this sensitive content.
I am joined by my brother Rob (who is 17 years older than me) and we discuss how Dad raised each of us and how he was when he became older, followed by how we both found out about his cancer and how it affected him before his death. We then discuss his death itself and how it affected us and what to do moving forward.

As I state in the intro, this is a very meaningful & quite emotional episode for both myself & Rob but we wanted to show that it’s healthy to speak about these matters and if anyone is going through something similar and wishes to chat, I am more than happy to discuss any of these things in a completely confidential way. If you feel as though speaking about this would be helpful, please contact me in the social media links, or via email, below.
