AS THE HIDDEN EMPIRE ENDS, WHAT ARE QI’RA AND DOCTOR APHRA’S FATES? For ep 129, Mike delves into the final issue of Hidden Empire; ending the Qi’ra trilogy, plus Aphra issues 30 & 31 bring an end to the Spark Eternal story arc! Mike delves into the plot of these final comic issues, while providing connections along the way, to provide the exciting conclusion to these comic issues, with hints of what’s to come!

Hidden Empire 5 was released April 5th 2023, was written by Charles Soule, with Steven Cummings as penciller, Victor Olazaba & Wayne Faucher as inkers and Guru eFX as colour artist. The trade paperback of all 5 Hidden Empire issues is due for release July 4th 2023. Doctor Aphra 30 was released April 12th 2023, DA 31 was released May 3rd 2023, the trade paperback collection for DA is due for release August 1st 2023 and both issues were written by Alyssa Wong with artist Minkyu Jung and colour artist Rachelle Rosenberg.

For Hidden Empire 1, 2, 3 & 4, check episodes 121, 122, 123 & 127. The comic episodes set between Crimson Reign & Hidden Empire are 114 for Bounty Hunters, 115 for Star Wars, 117 for Doctor Aphra, 119 for Darth Vader, and Crimson Reign 5 was tackled in ep 110!

The last episode was 128 which was the 40th anniversary of Return Of The Jedi and where Mike delves into the first 3 comics (of 8) that tie-in with Return Of The Jedi; Jabba’s Palace, Ewoks & Lando, but this episode was uploaded to the feed weeks ago (when it was the 40th anniversary), so the last episode on this feed was technically 127, which was Hidden Empire 4.

As Chanath Cha finally confronts Vader for 2 decades of revenge, Aphra learns even more from the Spark Eternal and gets more than she bargained for! THE CRIMSON REIGN IS OVER AS THE HIDDEN EMPIRE EMERGES! For ep 121, Mike delves into the first issue in the final chapter of the Qi’ra trilogy, including the crossover comics too! Qi’ra activates the Fermata Cage against Palpatine and speaks with him directly all while her agents cause chaos for the empire. Meanwhile, Aphra fights the Spark Eternal for control of her body, Sana Starros makes a deal with a Tagge and the Bounty Hunters crew fight the Empire, unknowingly going against their former crewmate; Beilert Valance!

For ep 117, Mike delves into the 5 issues of Doctor Aphra set after Crimson Reign, but before the Hidden Empire crossover event, which features an ancient being called the Spark Eternal possessing Aphra, trapping her inside her own memories with no one to speak with aside from a long-dead Chadra-Fan. While this unfolds, Sana Starros puts a crew together to find Aphra while Just Lucky is hotly in pursuit! As well as this plot, Mike provides further information on Cortosis, the Mairan species, the Droid Crush and more!

This episode was first released on the feed of Comics In Motion, in January 2023.

This story is set after Empire Strikes Back & after the Crimson Reign & War Of The Bounty Hunters events, but before Hidden Empire & Return Of The Jedi.

Doctor Aphra 22-26 are written by Alyssa Wong, with Minkyu Jung as artist on all issues and Natacha Bustos also as artist on issue 22, and Rachelle Rosenberg is colour artist on all issues.

Issue 22 was released July 27th 2022, issue 26 was released 16th November 2022 and the trade paperback collection (for issues 21-25) was released December 27th 2022.

Mike covered the prelude to Crimson Reign in episode 97 of SWCIC, and all volumes/crossovers 1-5 in episodes 102, 104, 106, 108 & 110.

THE KNIGHTS OF REN BREAK INTO VADER’S CASTLE ON MUSTAFAR! In ep 108, Mike delves into the fourth batch of Crimson Reign comics, where the infamous Knights Of Ren (& their leader before Kylo) attempt to steal a key from Darth Vader while the Crimson Dawn conspiracy continues to plunge the galaxy into chaos. Plus, the Bounty Hunters crew try to escape a horde of Unbroken Clan loyalists, Vader probes Sabé & Ochi about Crimson Dawn, Commander Zahra makes a daring gambit against the entire Rebellion fleet and Aphra finally gets her hands on the Spark Eternal…

This story is set after Empire Strikes Back & after the War Of The Bounty Hunters event, but before Return Of The Jedi and the reading order is BH22>CR4>DV22>SW23>DA20.

BH22 was released 6th April 2022 and was written by Ethan Sacks with Paolo Villanelli as artist and Arif Prianto as colour artist. Crimson Reign 4 was released 27th April 2022 and was written by Charles Soule, with Steven Cummings as penciller, Victor Olazaba as inker and Guru eFX as colour artist. DV22 was April 23rd 2022, was written by Greg Pak with Raffaele Ienco as artist and Alex Sinclair as colour artist. SW23 was released 4th May 2022 and was written by Charles Soule, with Ramon Rosanas as artist and Rachelle Rosenberg as colour artist.
