Free Comic Book Day High Republic Stories Explained: At The Republic Fair & Starlight Beacon, With Lula Talisola, Zeen Mrala, Ram Jomaram & More – (FCBD 2021 & 2023: Attack On The Republic Fair & Starlight Coda) – Ep 143

WHAT ARE THE FREE COMIC BOOK DAY HIGH REPUBLIC STORIES? In ep 143, Mike delves into the 2021 & 2023 Free Comic Book Day High Republic stories surrounding characters from the High Republic Adventures comics from Phase 1, primarily Lula Talisola. The 2021 story takes place just after the Race To Crashpoint Tower book while the 2023 story takes place after all issues of the phase 1 Adventures comics. Mike talks about these stories as well as Ram Jomaram, Zeen Mrala, Qort, Starlight Beacon, The Nihil and more!

Both stories were written by Daniel José Older, with Harvey Tolibao as artist. Rebcca Nalty was the colour artist for the 2021 story (Attack On The Republic Fair) and Michelle Madsen was colour artist for the 2023 story (Starlight Coda). FCBD21 was released in May 2021 and is in the trade paperback for volume 1 of The High Republic Adventures comics by IDW Publishing in February 2022, while FCBD23 was released August 2023. Both stories are within the THRA Phase 1 Omnibus, which was released in August 2023.

The High Republic Adventures Phase 1 comics start in ep 86 of SWCIC, the middle comics (set after FCBD21) are in ep 90 and the finale (set just before FCBD23) are delved into in episode 93 of Star Wars: Comics In Canon.

In this release Mike reviews the 10 High Republic short stories found in Tales Of Light & Life and gives brief overviews of each one! The stories take place in phases 1 & 2 of the High Republic, giving closure to some characters, revealing more about others and connecting the dots before we delve into Phase 3! Stories include Axel Greylark, Marda Ro, Ram Jomaram, Rooper Nitani, Bell Zettifar, Vernestra Rwoh & more, including some new characters!

Last week, in ep 124 of SWCIC, Mike released an episode that is technically not “canon” as it’s a comic that takes place in a Star Wars Visions continuity, more specifically, The Duel. This comic is a prequel to The Duel animated episode, which is also linked to the Ronin novel. Mike explores The Ronin’s story, confirms connections along the way and gives his interpretations to the ending.
